Julie Boyd

I am a qualified textiles teacher who has taught textiles for over 25 years to young people and adults both as a qualification as well as just for fun. 

I have a strong passion for textiles and work as a as a designer maker producing and selling my own work. I also work as a consultant focusing on all things textiles. This includes training teachers, running adult and children's workshops and working with schools to develop their textiles curriculum. 

In addition as I have experience in leadership, coaching and with teaching and learning I also work within education and industry training and supporting individuals and organisations with their professional development needs.

Seeing my work as a designer maker

As well as selling my work through my website I have had my work for sale in designer boutique THEM and regularly attend Arts & Crafts Fairs. I have also had my work exhibited at the Pedestrian Gallery in Leicester. I am a published author and write for Sewing World magazine as well as having published two school textbooks on textiles and being a regular contributor to textiles education magazines. My work as a designer maker 

I am passionate about textiles and will have a go at anything textiles related. There is rarely a day goes by that doesn't involve textiles in some way whether it be as part of my job or as a way of relaxing at the end of the day. 

I am inspired by colour, texture and pattern and my work reflects this. I use recycled, found and some new materials and revitalise and renew them by decorating the fabric surface by hand and machine with beads, yarns, embroidery, quilting, patchwork and other embellishments techniques to create vibrant new fabrics. I then use these fabrics to make a range of art work and functional gift products.

Electronic Textiles

I am interested in both the 'arty' side of textiles as well as the 'harder' more technological side. I am particularly interested in new developments in textiles such as the use of specialist technical materials and electronics such as light and sound modules.
